Shaima Alawadi, a 32-year-old Iraqi woman living in Southern California, was taken off life support today, succumbing to injuries sustained in a brutal tire iron beating on Wednesday. Shaima was found in her living room, and according to her daughter Fatima and the police investigating, a note was found near her saying “Go back to your country, you terrorist.”
Shaima was a mother of five who has been in the US with her family since the mid-1990s. She was described by her friend Sura Alzaidy as “respectful modest muhajiba.” Her daughter tearfully addressed her mother’s attackers during a media interview, saying “You took my mother away from me. You took my best friend away from me. Why? Why did you do it?”

THE CRAZY ADVENTURES OF CHILÉ OVER 200 YEARS OF INSANITY
White Capitalist Man: Sir, I just bought this land, it’s mine.
White Capitalist Man: GET OUT.
Indigenous Mapuche Man: But…
Riot Cop: TERRORIST! ]
The Mapuche nation, which spans Chilé and Argentina, successfully resisted Spanish invasion and European dominance for over 200 years. However, recent neo-liberal economic policies, enforced by a U.S.-backed dictatorship under Pinochet, have taken and sold Mapuche land to foreign lumber and cattle companies. Throughout the 90’s and early 00’s, Mapuche warriors resisted and drove off military incursions on their land with slingshots, arrows, and sticks. In 2002, Chilé emulated the U.S. War on Terror and created the Chilean Anti-Terrorist Law to crush Mapuche resistance and dissidence. Chilé is now being prosecuted by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for using the anti-terrorism law against Mapuché indigenous people.
Because of their struggle against the Chilean state and cultural resistance to both state and economic control, many Mapuche activists and leaders have identified as anarchists, and work with Chilean anarchists, especially in the urban areas. Chilé has a long history of anarchist struggle, especially surrounding the MIR (Movimiento Izquierda Revolucionaria), founded by anarchists and socialists in the 60’s, and throughout the ongoing student movement against the government and privatized education.

The senior CIA analyst responsible for tracking Osama bin Laden from 1996, Michael Scheuer, wrote shortly after that “bin Laden has been precise in telling America the reasons he is waging war on us. [He] is out to drastically alter US and Western policies toward the Islamic world”, and largely succeeded: “US forces and policies are completing the radicalisation of the Islamic world, something Osama bin Laden has been trying to do with substantial but incomplete success since the early 1990s. As a result, I think it is fair to conclude that the United States of America remains bin Laden’s only indispensable ally.

what’s most disturbing and outrageous is that even the CIA knows that many of the goals and beliefs bin Laden held about the U.S. and its wars are brutally true.
Remembering 9/11 terrorist attack by U.S. imperialists.
In respect to ALL victims of war and terrorism on 9/11- Chilean, Iraqi, Afghani, and U.S.
The 1973 Chilean coup d’état was a watershed event of the Cold War and the history of Chile. On Tuesday 11 September 1973, the democratically elected President Salvador Allende was overthrown in a coup d’état organised by the Chilean military and endorsed by the United States. A military junta led by General Augusto Pinochet took control of the government, composed of the heads of the Air Force, Navy, Carabineros (police force) and the Army. Pinochet later assumed power and ended Allende’s democratically elected Popular Unity government.
During the air raids and ground attacks that preceded the coup, Allende gave his last speech, in which he vowed to stay in the presidential palace, where he died. After the coup, Pinochet established a military dictatorship that ruled Chile until 1990; it was marked by severe human rights violations. A weak insurgent movement against the Pinochet government was maintained inside Chile by elements sympathetic to the former Allende government.
9/11
SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE POSTED ABOUT THIS. My grandfather, a Leftist Chilean Citizen, was taken away from my father and uncle during Pinochet’s regime due to these events. No one is sure what happened to him. This is a big deal to us, we’ve grieved 9/11 long before 9/11/01 occurred.
The United States funded these attacks. Fearing Communism taking over the world, they felt threatened by Salvador Allende because he was a Socialist, before he was even elected.
U.S. manufacturing company ITT Corporation owned of 70% of Chitelco, the Chilean Telephone Company, and funded El Mercurio, a Chilean right-wing newspaper. Declassified documents released by the CIA in 2000 suggest that ITT financially helped opponents of Salvador Allende’s government prepare a military coup.
Immediately after assuming office, the new U.S. President Richard Nixon ordered the CIA to depose President Allende in 1970. The U.S. intervention in the internal affairs of Chile was a foreign policy meant to worsen the economic crisis that President Allende faced — in order to propitiate a right-wing coup d’état. In a document dated September 15, 1970, Nixon orders “Make the economy scream [in Chile to] prevent Allende from coming to power or to unseat him.”
The 3 months following these attacks, 130,000 Chilean citizens were arrested. At least 3,200 Chilean Citizens died or disappeared completely during this regime, sent to torture camps where they were tortured. Women and men faced physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
In my middle and high school years I’d scan through every history book every year to see if this military coup would be mentioned at all, along with the United States involvement in it. Never found more than a sentence, and that wasn’t until my US Government class my senior year.
9/11/73 and 9/11/01 are both horrible, tragic events that involved the taking of thousands of innocent lives.
