our ancestors believe that a butterfly, papalotl, is the spirit of a warrior who has passed on to the land of the dead. we pay these elders tribute on the day of the dead.
butterflies do not recognize borders; so every year, millions of these Shadow Souls, slipping in and out between life and death, float through the fences erected on our bodies and on the land.
